Description

Ontario’s Manitoulin Island is the world’s largest freshwater lake island. It is also Canada’s 31st largest island. Manitoulin Island itself has 108 freshwater lakes. The island town of Manitowaning was the first European settlement, whilst Wikwemikong remains the only unceded Indian Reserve in Canada. Aundeck Omni Kaning, which means “where the crows live”, was in the past known as Sucker Creek. This First Nation community is part of the Great Spirit Circle Trail and has a tourism initiative known as Endaa-aang, which is an eco-resort development.
