Dungu

This is a portrait of a young chimp named Dungu. He, like so many others, lost his mother who was killed for bushmeat and was destined to become an exotic pet. The team at LWIRO Primates Rehabilitation Centre in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was able to seize him in the hopes that one day he gets to be released back into the wild. The original image that inspired this work shows sweet Dungu with his protector. It is my hope that one day chimpanzees no longer need to be protected and instead, can live a full and safe life with their families.
